Annual Camp Marcella Cabin Cleanup 2026 – Lending a Hand for a Meaningful Cause
Each spring, members of the Saddle River Valley Lions Club make the drive out to Rockaway Township, NJ, to roll up their sleeves for one of our most meaningful annual volunteer efforts: preparing Camp Marcella for its incoming campers and counselors.
On Saturday, May 30, our members spent the day cleaning two cabins the club sponsors at the camp, ensuring the spaces are welcoming, safe, and ready for the season ahead. It is a simple act of service – brooms, buckets, and a few hours of work – but what it represents is anything but small.
About Camp Marcella
Camp Marcella, owned and operated by the NJ Camp for Blind Children, Inc., is a non-profit residential summer camp serving children, teens, and adults with blindness, visual impairments, and other special needs. Set on 200 acres of beautiful New Jersey woodland in Rockaway Township, the camp provides a truly unique environment where campers can experience the joy of traditional camp activities – adapted sports, arts, music, and nature programs – in a fully accessible, inclusive setting.
The camp is equipped with ADA-compliant facilities, specialized dietary support, and a 24/7 registered nurse on site, ensuring every camper is safe, supported, and free to fully participate in camp life. For many campers, this is a place where they build lasting peer connections and discover what they are capable of in an environment designed entirely around their needs.

The Lions Club has a long and proud tradition of service to those with vision loss and other disabilities – it is woven into the very mission of Lions International. Our partnership with Camp Marcella reflects that mission in the most direct way: showing up, doing the work, and making sure a place that means so much to so many people is ready to open its doors each summer.
The campers and counselors who arrive at Camp Marcella deserve nothing less than a clean, prepared, welcoming home for the weeks ahead. We are proud to play even a small role in making that happen.
